Monthly Meeting Summary - April 13th, 2026
Hi Neighbors,
Thank you to all who attended our recent Civic Association meeting. We had a great turnout of 27 attendees!
The presentation is attached to this email. In this session, we discussed updates on the Chic Harley Memorial Garden, St John's Church, and progress on our new OOCA committees.
First, please congratulate Nikki Plata as our new Corresponding Secretary! She will be responsible for delivering general messages on behalf of the civic association, as well as providing backup to the Recording Secretary.
OOCA will not take ownership of the Chic Harley Memorial Garden near the corner of Newton and Champion. We can expect to see some changes in that lot in the future, most likely new housing construction. St John's future is being discussed with the diocese. No decisions have been made, and Old Oaks has an opportunity to provide feedback on what would be the most helpful use of the building in our community.
The Events committee is live! Event dates are posted on the website, and Wednesday on the Porch sign ups have begun. Please refer to NIkki's email for more information on dates and how to sign up. The Neighborhood Maintenance committee, Elections committee, and Historic Development committee are not officially formed yet, but we did have some volunteers during the meeting. If you are interested in any of these please let me know!
During our open floor we discussed starting a petition for fiber internet, sending a letter to the Holy Trinity Orthodox Tewahedo Church on the corner of Oakwood and Newton about illegal parking, and having long-time neighbors as guest speakers to give us a little history on our neighborhood. All great ideas that we will work on for the next monthly meeting!
Sincerely,
Julian
