Who should I contact for more immediate safety concerns?

There are times when we need assistance that is not an emergency requiring a call to 911 but does need attention more immediately than a service request to 311. In those instances you can contact the Columbus Police Non-emergency helpline at 614-645-4545. You can also reach out to our CPD Community Liaison Officer Scott Rountree.

Where do I put my waste and when will it get picked up?

  • Household garbage goes in either one of the 300 gallon cans located in your alley or your personal city issued 90 gallon can.

  • Recycling should be placed in your 64 gallon city issued blue cart and wheeled to the rear of your property along alley for the bi-weekly pick-up. Leaving carts in the alley can result in damage or theft - replacement carts can be purchased from the city at your expense.

  • Yard Waste must be placed in front of your property along the curb in biodegradable (paper) bags or plastic or galvanized metal containers with handles that are marked no more than thirty-two (32) gallons in size and not more than fifty (50) pounds in weight marked "Yard Waste".

  • Bulk Collection Many bulk items will be picked up by the city as a free service to its residents. However bulk waste pickup MUST be scheduled and oversized items should never be deposited in 300 gallon cans. Schedule a pick-up by contacting 311, you will be given a date to expect pick-up. Please place item(s) at the rear of your property the evening before your scheduled pick-up and not before.

Who is responsible for litter on or around my property?

If you live in Old Oaks or any number of urban neighborhoods you will have to deal with the unfortunate reality of litter. Even if you were not the one who left the trash, it is your responsibility if on your property. There will also be instances of litter in roads or alleys that are common spaces - we are expected to keep those parts of the neighborhood clean as well. Periodically we plan community clean-up days were we all come together as a neighborhood to tackle larger projects. One driver of litter are loose items tossed in overflowing open or lidless trash cans or recycling carts. Keeping cans closed is a good practice.

How do I get involved in the community?
